The New York Jets have solidified their future by signing star wide receiver Garrett Wilson and elite cornerback Sauce Gardner to lucrative contract extensions, keeping two of their brightest talents in green and white for years to come. Both players, drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft—Wilson at 10th overall and Gardner at 4th—have become cornerstones of the franchise. Their rookie seasons were historic, with Wilson earning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and Gardner claiming the Defensive Rookie of the Year, marking a rare and remarkable sweep for a single team.

Garrett Wilson has consistently been the Jets’ offensive lifeline despite instability at the quarterback position. In his rookie campaign, Wilson hauled in 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and 4 touchdowns, showcasing his elite route running and playmaking ability. He followed that with another 1,000-yard season in 2023, despite catching passes from four different quarterbacks due to injuries and inconsistency. His ability to produce in a turbulent offense underscores his value, making his extension a priority for the team and a message that he is the centerpiece of their offensive future.

On the defensive side, Sauce Gardner has transformed the Jets’ secondary into one of the league’s most feared units. As a rookie, he led the NFL with 20 passes defended and added two interceptions, earning First-Team All-Pro honors—the first rookie corner to do so in over 40 years. In his sophomore season, Gardner continued to dominate, holding opposing receivers to under a 55% completion rate when targeted and helping the Jets finish top-5 in total defense. His presence has allowed the Jets to neutralize top receivers weekly, providing a foundation for the team’s defensive identity.

The extensions of Wilson and Gardner are not just about rewarding individual performance—they are a signal of belief in the Jets’ core. Both players have proven to be mature leaders, culture-setters, and consistent playmakers in a league where reliability is rare. Drafted in the same year, earning league-wide honors together, and now securing long-term deals together, Wilson and Gardner represent a new era for the Jets—one built on elite talent, resilience, and a commitment to excellence on both sides of the ball.

Mikal Bridges Signs 4-Year, $150 Million Deal with the New York Knicks https://wgisports.com/mikal-bridges-signs-4-year-150-million-deal-with-the-new-york-knicks/ Thu, 07 Aug 2025 22:50:07 +0000 https://wgisports.com/?p=3008

The New York Knicks have officially locked in Mikal Bridges with a four-year, $150 million contract, signaling their commitment to building a championship-caliber core. Bridges, acquired in a blockbuster trade earlier this offseason, has quickly become an essential piece of New York’s long-term plans. His playoff performance — particularly his defensive brilliance against the Boston Celtics — cemented his value. Tasked with guarding Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Bridges showcased elite on-ball defense, limiting Boston’s stars to inefficient shooting nights and routinely disrupting their offensive rhythm. His relentless energy and versatility on defense were instrumental in pushing the Knicks deep into the postseason.

Beyond his defensive excellence, Bridges continues to evolve into a dependable offensive weapon. Averaging over 19 points per game during the playoffs, he displayed a refined mid-range game, a reliable three-point shot, and a growing ability to create off the dribble. His fit alongside Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns gives New York a dynamic trio with complementary skill sets. The Knicks are banking on Bridges’ upward trajectory as a scorer, especially given his capacity to take over stretches of games with his quick first step and improved shot-making under pressure.

This deal not only rewards Bridges for his all-around impact but also positions the Knicks as serious Eastern Conference contenders. At just 28 years old, Bridges is entering his prime with the potential to become a two-way star in one of the league’s biggest markets. His leadership, consistency, and two-way dominance make him an ideal fit for new head coach Mike Brown’s system. With Bridges secured through 2029, the Knicks now boast one of the league’s most formidable defensive units, while also adding a player who continues to raise his ceiling offensively.

Caitlyn Clarke’s undoubtedly made a big splash in the WNBA, but the league’s success
isn’t all on her shoulders. It’s about the whole squad and the league’s overall strategy. While stars like Clarke grab headlines, it takes a team effort on and off the court to keep the league thriving.

We’ve got to remember not to put too much pressure on any one player. Everyone drafted brings something unique, and creating a supportive atmosphere benefits everyone. Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso, now teammates on the Chicago Sky, are great examples of this.

Reese and Cardoso, who both took down Clarke in college on their way to NCAA championships, bring serious talent to the league. Their move to the Chicago Sky amps up the competition and shows off the WNBA’s depth. It’s worth noting the disparity, though, like how Clarke’s exhibition game got broadcast while Reese and Cardoso’s didn’t. Clarke’s a force, but recognizing everyone’s achievements and teamwork is what
keeps the WNBA soaring.

There were some signings that happened this month that blew myself and a few people I knew away! It was one of those, “Never would have saw that coming!” instances. Here are some familiar faces in new places!

Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons: Kirk Cousins, the man known for his “you like that” moments, is taking his talents down to Hotlanta! Falcons fans are hoping he’ll bring some of that Minnesota magic and maybe, just maybe, lead them to that elusive Super Bowl victory. And hey, if nothing else, maybe he’ll treat us to another iconic sideline outburst.

Saquon Barkley lands in Philadelphia: The Eagles are soaring high with this one! Saquon Barkley, the human highlight reel, is about to show Philly fans what real ground power looks like. Get ready for some Barkley-induced whiplash because this guy can change directions quicker than a Philly sports fan changes their opinion on cheesesteaks.

Sam Darnold’s redemption tour in Minnesota: Sam Darnold is getting a second chance up in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Vikings fans are hoping he’ll make them forget all about their quarterback woes. But hey, if things don’t pan out, at least they can drown their sorrows in some delicious lutefisk.

Mike Williams suits up for the Jets: The New York Jets are getting some serious air support with Mike Williams joining the squad. Let’s just hope he’s got his boarding pass ready because with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, they’re looking to take flight. Jets fans, prepare for some turbulence… and I’m not just talking about the New Jersey Turnpike traffic.

Derrick Henry’s surprising move to Baltimore: Well, well, well, look who’s decided to join the Baltimore Ravens. Derrick Henry, the human freight train, is about to steamroll his way through the AFC North. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, y’all better invest in some extra strength turf if you want to slow this guy down.

Tyron Smith protects Mr. Rodgers… in New York: Tyron Smith is leaving America’s Team to protect another MVP-caliber quarterback. Jets fans are hoping he’ll be the key to unlocking Aaron Rodgers’ full potential in the Big Apple. And hey, if the football thing doesn’t work out, at least they can bond over their shared love of Broadway shows.

Russell Wilson’s black and gold adventure: Russell Wilson, the man with the golden arm, is about to don the black and gold. Pittsburgh Steelers fans are already planning their Super Bowl parades because with Wilson at the helm, anything is possible. Big Ben who?

Bryce Huff’s flight to Philly: The Eagles are welcoming Bryce Huff with open wings… I mean arms. This edge rusher is ready to spread his wings and soar in Philadelphia. Quarterbacks beware, because Huff’s coming for you like a Philly fan going after the last cheesesteak at a tailgate.

And there you have it, folks! The NFL offseason just got a whole lot more dramatic and crazy! Strap in, because it’s gonna be one wild ride!

Every so often we get to witness a generational talent. That talent that stands out from the rest that plays the same position. The talent and skill set that’s so exceptional because the others that play the same position are very very good as well. They all play at a high level but this exceptional talent seems to have the dna to go beyond the
standard high level and set a new one! Aaron Darnold was this person. For only 10 years Darnold has played Defensive Tackle for the Los Angeles Rams and was nothing short of dominant. He was the guy offensive coordinators had to do extra planning for to figure out how to contain him. Not stop him, but at least contain. In those 10 seasons, Donald was a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, an eight-time first-team All-Pro, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection and the 2014 Defensive Rookie of the Year. With the exception of this season, Darnold recorded over 10 sacks. He is a
2021/2022 Superbowl Champion. Generational talents like Darnold will surely be missed watching dominate every Sunday (unless it’s against your team). Undoubtedly, he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Like Jim Brown, Calvin Johnson, and Barry Sanders, Darnold joins this elite list of NFL players who created an illustrious career in 10 years or under. He is undoubtedly the greatest defensive player of his era and arguably the greatest defensive player of all

The NFL regular season has come to an end, and for many teams that didn’t make the playoffs come the decision of firing their coaching staff. The ATL Falcons and Washington Commanders have let their HC go. The Commanders had a rocky season under the helm of Ron Rivera and have decided to go in a different direction. Can this be the opportunity for 54-year-old Eric Bieniemy to land an HC job or does Eric move on?

Nonetheless, Black Monday will start an interesting week in the NFL offseason for many teams.
