Earnie Shavers who was known as the hardest puncher in the golden era of 70’s heavyweight boxing, died yesterday at the age of 78. The cause of death is unknown. Shavers was 74-14-1 with 68 knockouts in his career.

Muhammad Ali had this to say after their heavyweight title fight on September 29th, 1977 at MSG: “Earnie hit me so hard, it shook my kinfolk in Africa!” Shavers was a devastating puncher who was feared by all of his peers who raved about his power.
